Deaf Youth Development Week took place at Outdoor Pursuits Centre, the venue of the 2nd Asia Pacific Deaf Youth Camp, from 1st to 6th July 2001. About 20 Deaf youths aged between 18-30 years old participated in this week long leadership camp.

A sequence of fun and challenging adventures combined with models and theories of leadership was carried out to provide participants with leadership and teamwork opportunities. Team communication skills around different tasks and solving group initiative challenges were developed. This camp aimed at encouraging Deaf Youth to gain experience with hands-on communication initiative teams skills for local and international projects. This is done witht the support of the Deaf Association of New Zealand in conjunction with FYD (Friends of the Youth Deaf) for the 2nd Asia Pacific Deaf Youth Camp.
